ABOUT OSDU

History of OSDU

The Beginning

Overtime, it became obvious that various communities were growing rapidly and becoming more relevant through formation of Unions, Forums and Associations by people with diverse skills and professionalism. These human arrangements have impacted tremendously on the educational, socioeconomic and political lives of many communities. People   have seen this happened in the activities of Arewa forum, the Ndigbos and other groups across Nigeria. Also, in recent times Nigerians in the Diaspora are returning home to assist in nation building and to compliment the efforts of governments at various levels.

These and many more propelled the founding fathers of Ose Social Development Union in December 2009.

Our Goals

Our goals among others include fostering peace, unity and developments among members and Ose Local Government  in general, embark on programmes and projects aiming towards the developments and improvement of its members; the Local Government, and rallying round members in  need wherever it’s  practicable.

The Journey so Far

The journey so far has been very challenging, ranging from membership mobilization to funding and most especially registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission and opening of Bank Account.

In 2010, after considering several names and acronyms we settled for Ose Consultative Forum (OCF). On the basis of this name, the first constitution was produced, letterhead papers were printed, corporate stamp and Seal were procured. We approached our bank to open an account, but we realized that a C.A.C registration Certificate was required.

We swiftly mobilized our lawyer to commence the registration with the C.A.C and to our greatest surprise, “Forum” could not be registered and we were advised to change our name, this we did, not without huge financial implications and great sacrifices from members as every document were changed to reflect the new name.

By October 2013, we received our C.A.C Registration certificate as Ose Social Development Union. (OSDU). Thanks to all members.

During the few years of existence of this Union despite the challenges explained above, we have also recorded successes especially in the areas of mobilization of our members to honour invites from members, bursary awards to best students from Ten secondary schools, financial assistance to members and non-members.

Also, members in their personal capacities have assisted one another in areas of employments and payment of bills without bringing it to the floor of the Union.  In all we give glory to the almighty God who has been our strength.
